Can’t decide whether to get your scuba certification while on holiday or at home before you travel? With a PADI® Open Water referral, you don’t have to choose!
A PADI referral allows you to complete most of your scuba training at home – then, finish your certification dives anywhere in the world. This means you can support your local dive shop and avoid studying during your vacation at the same time. Now, let’s get into the details.
PADI® Open Water Diver is the first scuba certification level. A highly-trained PADI Instructor will teach you how to scuba dive in a relaxed, supportive learning environment. By the end of the course, you’ll have the skills and knowledge to dive at home or abroad and be an ambassador for the underwater world.
Becoming a certified diver has three phases:
At Home, you will do...
Phase one: knowledge development. Opt to learn in the classroom
Phase two: confined water. Practice using scuba gear in a pool (or pool-like environment) until you’re comfortable. PADI training includes practice “mini dives” to help you build confidence in your new abilities.
On Holiday, you will do...
Phase three: open water. This portion includes four dives in open water, which means unrestricted water such as a sea, lake or flooded quarries. PADI Referral course will let you finish your certification dives with nice warm holiday diving.
